Catalina Islands offshore waters are a registered national marine park located a short sail from the town of La Romana. Famous for its coral reefs, explorers are fascinated as they observe the incredible underwater fauna and the famous wreck of Catalina Kidds last ship, the Quedagh Merchant, visible in only 9-10 feet of water less than 100 yards from the shores of the island. The reefs in this area have evolved into an amazing underwater museum due to a beautiful but menacing coral wall. Enjoy this indescribable Catalina tour experience and enjoy watching all the different fish, the colors, reefs, and the whole marine life.
Once you have enjoyed the views and learned more about the cultural aspects of the area, we will stop at one of the best snorkeling spots in the Dominican Republic. For your Catalina Island snorkel excursion, we will provide you with proper snorkel equipment for you to enjoy the great variety of colors, corals, and tropical fishes.
The Wall is the snorkeling point of the day, set in clear blue waters with a depth starting from 5m+ (16ft+) with good visibility between 32 ft (10m) to 65 ft (20m). Depending on your experience and comfort in the water, there will be life jackets available to ensure you enjoy the ultimate underwater snorkeling experience. Things to look out for while snorkeling include vase sponge, fire coral, sea pen, sea cucumber, sea fan coral, elkhorn coral, leather coral, porcupine fish, sailfin sculpin, green parrotfish, moray eel, scorpion fish, snapper, southern stingray, blue parrotfish, elephant ear, sponge coral, green angelfish, trumpet fish, butterfly fish, lionfish, yellow stingray and more. The snorkeling lasts approximately 45 minutes over the reef.
After the snorkeling session, you will sail onto Catalina Island. As you approach the shoreline, you will take in the beautiful view of clear turquoise waters framing an inviting white sandy beach. You will be in paradise the moment your feet touch the soft, powder-like sand on the shore. The time to enjoy a typical Dominican BBQ on the beach with some drinks arrived.
After lunch, there's time to enjoy the soft sand and crystal-clear water, or just grab a chaise lounge and soak up some Caribbean sunshine. You will head back to the mainland approx. 2:30 p.m. and connect with your transportation back to your resort.
